In this course

Blues dancing is slow, grounded, and deeply musical. It lives in the connection with yourself, with the music, and with your partner. In this 4-week course, we’ll explore the essential movement vocabulary of partner blues dancing, always returning to what makes the dance feel good: listening, responding, and moving together.

Your teachers: Sabina & Zane

Each class stands on its own, so you’re welcome to drop in for individual sessions or join the full course for a more complete journey.

Class descriptions

August 11: Basic Movement Patterns
In our first class we will explore how to transfer weight in many different ways – through the hips, the chest, and beyond. We will bring these movements into partner dancing and add turn variations on top.

August 18: Rhythms in the Body
In this class we’ll refine how rhythm lives in our bodies, activating the hips and shoulders, playing with timing, and letting the music guide how we move.

August 25: Rhythms in the Feet
We will enter the world of rhythms in our steps. The shuffle is the most defining rhythm in blues music and itt gives blues its characteristic rolling groove based on triplets. We will explore variations of it in partner dance and expand into other rhythmic possibilities and shapes, like the fishtail.

September 1: Connection
In our final class, we will bring it all together. We’ll work on the subtle art of leading and following, while we stay responsible for our own rhythm and quality of movement. We will explore how much impulse to give, how to respond through the whole body, and how to connect the arms to the center so the partnership feels alive and effortless.

About Me

I discovered swing dance in 2004 in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and instantly fell in love with it. Shortly afterward, I had my first experiences with blues dance, which inspired me to start teaching blues in 2008.

Over more than 15 years of attending festivals and teaching swing and blues, both in Slovenia and internationally, I have developed a refined sense of how learning, experience, and connection can unfold through music and dance. I value rhythmic precision, clarity of movement, and expression.

My understanding of body movement, posture, and somatics is deeply rooted in posture work, which I have been practicing professionally since 2014 as a certified Gokhale method teacher.

Another important aspect I bring into my classes is a subtle attunement to movement and the shared space of the group. As a dedicated meditator and practitioner of Inner Space Techniques (IST), I care deeply about creating spaces that are grounded in warmth, presence, and a sense of connection.

“Certainly, it is the teacher who, with the right and professional approach, motivates students so that the technique or method bears the desired results. Sabina possesses all the qualities of a high-quality teacher – expert knowledge, clear and accessible explanations, an individualized approach, the ability to recognize each student’s personal challenges, kindness, warmth, and sincerity. I don’t remember the last time I attended a course where two hours felt like a single moment. Truly exceptional.” — Boštjan

“Sabina is a warm and approachable person, and her teaching is thorough and engaging. I loved her movement style already during the demonstration, which is why I decided to join the Gokhale Method course immediately. I recommend her to anyone who wants to do something for their posture, their body, and to live without pain. Thank you!” — Marjetka
